About Assist Loans

A father and son brokerage.

We started Assist Loans together — Russell with years of lending behind him, Ethan from the strategy side of property. Two lead brokers, one small firm, and a deliberate decision to keep it that way.

The brokers

Two of us, and you'll know which one has your file.

Between us we cover the whole journey — the first home buyer who doesn't know where to start, and the investor working out how to fund property number four.

Russell Hall, lead broker at Assist Loans

Russell Hall

Lead Broker & Credit Representative

CRN 554892

Russell has been helping Brisbane families into property for years, and he came to it through personal experience on both sides of the transaction. Early in his adult life he borrowed from his own mother to get started — which is roughly why a guarantor conversation with him sounds different to one with a bank.

He's built a reputation as a broker who takes the time to explain. Not mortgage jargon dressed up as plain English — actual plain English, usually with a whiteboard involved. One of his clients, Kirra Conlon, put it like this: “Thank you so much Russell for being the most PATIENT mortgage broker. This is a dream come true.”

Russell is the credit representative on the licence and handles credit assistance, loan applications and lender negotiations from first call through to settlement.

Ethan Hall, lead broker at Assist Loans

Ethan Hall

Lead Broker & Property Strategist

Bachelor of Business (Marketing)

Ethan came to broking from the other side of the table. He worked for buyers agents as a property strategist — the person working out which property, in which market, for which purpose, and how it fits a longer plan rather than just this one purchase.

That shapes how he approaches a loan. The finance and the strategy are the same conversation: how a loan is structured at property one decides whether property three is possible. He works with first home buyers getting in the door, and with investors building a portfolio who need the lending sequenced so it doesn't stall at the second purchase.

He holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing, and he's the one most likely to send you a spreadsheet you didn't ask for.

Why a family business

We started this one together.

Assist Loans is a father and son brokerage, and that isn't a marketing line — it's the reason the firm works the way it does. When your name is on it and the person beside you is family, you don't put a client into a loan you wouldn't put each other into.

It also means two sets of eyes on every file, and two very different angles on the same problem — Russell on the lending and the credit policy, Ethan on the property strategy underneath it.

When we're not working, you'll usually find the two of us out fishing.

How we work

Four things we hold to.

You deal with a principal

Not a call centre, not a processing team you get handed to after the first meeting. One of us takes your first call, and the same person takes it to settlement.

Plain English, actually

Not jargon with a friendly tone. If you leave a conversation unable to explain your own loan to someone else, we haven't finished the conversation.

We'll tell you to wait

Sometimes the right advice is don't buy yet, or don't refinance this year. We're only paid when a loan settles, which is precisely why saying so matters.

Still here afterwards

A rate that's sharp today won't be in three years. We review annually, because the loan you signed isn't meant to be the loan you keep forever.

Lender panel

25+ lenders, including the ones you'd expect.

Major banks for the sharpest mainstream pricing, and specialist lenders for the situations the majors decline outright.
